d2 's brief for this 18th century Edinburgh townhouse was to design an extension to the property that both complimented and enhanced the traditional form of the main house whilst encouraging a wealth of natural daylight into the new space.

The existing house contained a modest sized Kitchen/Dining area to the rear of the property and with the clients having a young expanding family these facilties gradually began to fall short of their requirements. It was proposed to house the new open plan Kitchen and dining area with island unit and breakfast bar within the new extension facility and break out the existing external wall to form an enlarged open plan Kitchen/Dining/Living area in which the clients young family could flourish.
